New York City MTA pension scam

I have posted about this before. There is former MTA track inspector who through overtime became the agency's highest paid employee. In 2018 with a base pay of $117,499 he took in $344,147 in overtime. In order to do that he would have had to have worked an additional 10 hours every day that year. NYC MTA's pension is based on the three highest paid years in the last 10 years you have worked there. Thomas Caputo took an early retirement last year at the age of 56 and was getting $144,000 a year pension which he would get every year the rest of his life. The Feds have investigated him and are going after his pension. Parked at his home are new Audi Q5, BMW and an Accord. This overtime scam is rampant in the MTA. Along with four other employees they are are charged with federal program fraud carrying a 10 year prison. Just once I would like to see these guys go to jail. During the overtime the defendant was frequently home or at other non-work locations like a bowling alley in Patchouge, L.I.

He messed up what could've been an awesome retirement.
Interesting how that ot got worked into his retirement in the first place. I'm a federal worker and overtime doesn't factor into my pension. If it did, I'd be getting about a thousand bucks more a month.

It's set up like that, although not to the same extent, for many city and state employees in Connecticut. I would advise anyone who can take advantage of such to do just that. Of course, I don't need to tell anyone that, they all know.

Retiring after 20 years (maybe 25) with a pension that exceeds your base salary is awesome for the recipient, but unsustainable for society.

It's something that must change, and is slowly changing, we have no choice
